Would the real {insert your name here} please stand up?

A common theme we hear from many of our clients is, “I don’t know who I am anymore!” They get lost in the many roles they play throughout the day and truly do appear to forget who they are. After a long day of “Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!” it would only feel natural to identify yourself with “Mommy.”  After hearing “Mrs. ____, would you please help me out with ____?” you begin to identify with your role at work.  And so on… So, what can you do to “find  yourself” again?

Let me ask you this: How do you get to know others? Spend time with them? Ask them questions? Do things together? I know it may sound silly to spend time with yourself or ask yourself questions or do things with/by yourself, but really…when is the last time you just sat down alone? No kids. No husband, No boss.  Wow! That long, huh?

Take some time over the next couple of days just for yourself. Do something you like. Journal about your thoughts, feelings, dreams, ideas.  Enjoy the silence. Or crank up the tunes! Go for a walk and enjoy the beauty around you. Sit down with a good book.  Or begin to write one! This is time to really reflect on what brings joy to your life.  Now…write this down:

I commit to myself that I will take 10 minutes every day for me. It is not selfish. It is an opportunity for me to recharge so that I can live my life with a positive attitude and gather the energy to do the things that need to be done.
